New Delhi: Trinamool Congress Idris Ali dared the Centre to arrest West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Saradha chit-fund scam and warned that if she is arrested by the CBI, the state would be on fire. He also claimed that Mamata had no role in the scam.
"Mamata Banerjee is not only the 'agnikanya' of West Bengal, but of India also. If she is touched or arrested then Bengal will be on fire. In that fire lot of people will die," MP Idris Ali said at a meeting in North 24-Parganas district.
Asserting that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot handle the 'agnikanya' of West Bengal, he said it was not a small thing that Trinamool got so many seats in the last Lok Sabha polls.
The MP claimed neither the Trinamool Congress nor Banerjee had any role in the Saradha scam.
"People will not accept it if anyone tries to defame her," the party leader said.
Earlier, West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra and two party MPs Kunal Ghosh and Srinjoy Bose were arrested by the CBI in the multi-crore chit-fund scam. [PTI]
