Government approves 18 new FM channels for Northeast, 15 for Jammu & Kashmir

<p>NEW DELHI(PTI): The government has approved 18 new FM radio channels for North Eastern states and 15 for Jammu and Kashmir.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/01/17/302647-radio-fm-rna.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>Announcing this, Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh said the initiative was a New Year gift for the eight North Eastern states and Jammu and Kashmir. In North-East, three channels each will be launched in six towns -- Haflong and Dhubri in Assam, Jowai in Meghalaya, Lung-lei in Mizoram, Mokukchung in Nagaland, and Belonia in Tripura. This is in addition to the existing 12 FM channels which are already functional in the Northeast.</p><p>Of the 15 FM channels to be launched in Jammu & Kashmir, three each will be in Kathua and Bhaderwah. Of the remaining nine channels, three each will be in Kargil, Leh and Poonch. Singh said the new channels are being launched with the special objective of extending the reach and impact of radio to the border areas where other means of telecast or broadcast are not available. Radio is still the most easily available and convenient medium of broadcast in such peripheral areas where television telecast is not accessible and the added advantage is that radio broadcast can be tuned even without electricity.</p><p>Singh said the government has a special consideration for these states and this is evident from the fact that the cut-off population required for introducing an FM channel has been drastically reduced in case of these border areas. Elaborating,, he said while in Phase-II, the cut-off population was minimum 3 lakh, in Phase-III it is proposed to be one lakh. In case of the 33 channels to be launched in border towns or cities of North Eastern states and Jammu and Kashmir, the population cut-off could be further reduced.</p><p>Hailing this decision as an outcome of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's special emphasis and concern for these regions, Singh thanked Finance Minister and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Arun Jaitley for having taken a liberal view of the proposal and helped in the process of Phase-III FM Channels. Singh, as Minister for DoNER as well as an MP from Jammu and Kashmir, has also urged upon the concerned ministries to install these proposed channels with a higher frequency compared to the already existing channels so that they can better broadcast services in the border areas. These channels may, however, not be permitted to put out their own news broadcasts and in case the news has to be broadcast, it will be taken from the All India Radio (Akashvani), he said.</p>

Some emotions are so deeply embedded in you that when you see even a pale interpretation of them on screen, they push you into the throes of nostalgia.</p><h2>The butterflies have gone, writes Niranjan Iyengar</h2><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2014/11/11/282785-niranjan.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>When I was invited for the preview of Tapaal (Post), a Marathi film, the jaded film technician in me was not at all prepared for the ride into memories of childhood and adolescence, lost amidst the buzz of my professional life. It wasn't so much about the story or the narrative of Tapaal as much as it was about what it evoked in me – a deep sense of longing!</p><p>How many times have we, through our adolescence, heard the words, "Grow up!" or "Stop behaving like a child"! And they never made sense then. But despite being annoying, the words gave a strange comfort that `growing up' perhaps had all the answers to our questions. And then the years pass and it just dawns on you that there are no answers… just more questions!</p><p>Tapaal is set in a small village in the 80s and explores an unusual friendship between a childless couple and a young boy going through growing up pangs. As the film ended I couldn't stop crying. Even as I was expressing my thoughts to writer Mangesh Hadawale and director Laxman Utekar, I was suppressing the tears that threatened to spring into my eyes. They did look surprised and may have thought of it as an over-reaction, but something in me had been stirred. I laughed off my response as some `age-related' reaction till it dawned on me this morning that it wasn't so.</p><p>I was actually reliving the emotions of my teenage years that now seem so far away. And while I prayed through all those years to grow up, today, I miss them. I miss those precocious, heart wrenching, laughter filled, warm moments, where even when you were making friends or enemies there was no pressure to keep the decision permanent, where you were allowed to change your mind, trespass boundaries and even hurt people without being judged.</p><p>Adolescence is about confusion, anxiety, anger, lust, love… It's like the first rain of the monsoon and no matter how much it pours after that, the fragrance is never really the same. Each of us has a different notion of what growing up is but for me, it lies in a deep sense of regret that no matter how much or how hard I try, I will never feel the way I did when I was 15, 16 or 19…</p><p>I still remember the butterflies in my stomach the first time I was going to confess my love and it's sad that with passing years, the butterflies keep reducing till they cease to exist. That's the saddest part of growing up. You lose the butterflies!</p>

Southern cinema: Popular dialogues, songs inspire film titles

<p>Chennai, Nov 2 - A film's title is the first step in grabbing a viewer's attention much before it hits the screens. And more attention is guaranteed when a popular film dialogue or a line from a chartbuster song becomes the title of a movie. That's just what a slew of southern filmmakers are doing.</p><h2>Southern cinema: Popular dialogues, songs inspire film titles</h2><p><img alt="" src="http://i.ytimg.com/vi/dT-BqSJNfmc/0.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>Over 10 upcoming southern films have titles that are associated with popular dialogues and hit songs from past movies.</p><p>Udhayanidhi Stalin-starrer Tamil comedy Nanbenda, which also features comedian Santhanam, is a word popularised by the latter in his hit film Boss Engira Bhaskaran.</p><p>The title, which means friend, was apt because it's a story about two friends. So we felt it will make sense to use it, the film's director Jagadish told IANS.</p><p>Jagadish is the former associate of filmmaker Rajesh, who helmed Boss Engira Bhaskaran. This explains how he must have got the clearance for his film's title.</p><p>Santhanam-coined word Appa Takkaru, which is gibberish, is the title of Jayam Ravi's next Tamil project, while one of his popular dialogues is the title of the film Nee Yellam Nalla Varuvada.</p><p>R.K. starrer Tamil thriller En Vazhi Thani Vazhi is titled after superstar Rajinikanth's famous punch line from Padayappa.</p><p>It's the story of a police officer who deals with the criminals in his own way. Hence we felt the title was very relevant to the story. It does add some weightage because it's a popular dialogue, but eventually it's the film that matters, R.K. said.</p><p>While a 1988 Tamil film starring late Raghuvaran was titled En Vazhi Thani Vazhi, it became highly popular after Rajinikanth used this line.</p><p>Kamal Haasan's popular song Kadavul Paathi Mirugam Paathi from Alavandhan is the title of an upcoming Tamil action-thriller starring Raaj Zacharias.</p><p>Director R. Kannan's next Tamil film is rumoured to be titled Poda Aandavane En Pakkama, another popular punch dialogue of Rajinikanth.</p><p>The titles of recently released Tamil films such as Ennamo Yedho, Un Samayal Arayil and Enna Satham Intha Neram were also all based on popular hit songs in the language.</p><p>In Telugu, the titles of films such as Oka Laila Kosam, Oohalu Gusagusaladea, Ra Ra Krishnayya, Nee Jathaga Nenundali, Kiraak, Govindudu Andarivadele, Gallo Telinattunde and Dikkulu Chudaku Ramayya were all based on chartbuster numbers.</p><p>Akkineni Naga Chaitanya-starrer Oka Laila Kosam was inspired from a hit song of the same name from his late grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao's film Raamudu Kaadu Krishnudu. In fact, the song was also remixed for the film.</p><p>For Chaitanya, it was very emotional to use his grandfather's song.</p><p>It was from my favourite film of my grandfather. The director suggested we remix it as it would be suitable for the situation. We convinced Anup Rubens (music composer) and he did it. Then the film was also named 'Oka Laila Kosam' as it was apt and blended well, Chaitanya had earlier told IANS.</p><p>The Telugu remake of Aashiqui 2 was titled Nee Jathaga Nenundali, which is based on the song from Ram Charan-starrer Yevadu.</p><p>The title of recently released Kiraak and upcoming Telugu romantic-actioner Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitham are based on hit tracks from Pawan Kalyan's films.</p><p>Upcoming romantic drama Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju, which features Sharwanand and Nithya Menon in the lead, is based on the popular song from Chiranjeevi's film Raakshasudu.</p><p>Actor Nithin Reddy used one of the hit songs from his own films Ishq as the title of his upcoming film Chinnadana Nee Kosam.</p>

Odisha imposes fishing ban for turtle nesting

<p>Bhubaneswar, Nov 1 - The Odisha government Saturday imposed a seven-month fishing ban along its coast to protect endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles which come to the state beaches for mass nesting every winter, an official said.</p><h2>Odisha imposes fishing ban for turtle nesting</h2><p><img alt="" src="http://www.geographyandyou.com/images/stories-pics/olive_ridley.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>The ban is imposed along 120 km of the state's 480 km coastline to protect the turtles who are set to congregate in shallow waters, senior forest officer Kedar Kumar Swain told IANS.</p><p>No fishing activities would be allowed within 20 km of the coast near the nesting sites. The ban will be in effect till May 31, he said.</p><p>Over half a million Olive Ridley turtles arrive and congregate in the shallow coastal water of the Bay of Bengal in November and climb ashore for nesting between December and March. Most hatchlings emerge by May.</p><p>The state has three nesting sites - Gahirmatha beach in Kendrapada district, Devi river mouth in Puri district and Rushikulya river mouth in Ganjam district.</p><p>The Gahirmatha turtle sanctuary is one of the world's largest turtle nesting sites.</p><p>However, there was no mass nesting last year in Gahirmatha and Devi river mouth probably due to the damage caused by cyclone Phailin that ripped through the coast in October and caused extensive destruction.</p><p>There was sporadic nesting at these two sites as only a small number of turtles had turned up, he said.</p><p>In Rushikulya, however, around 30,000 turtles had nested on the beach, he said.</p><p>Olive Ridley turtles are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Trapping, killing or selling them could attract a maximum seven-year prison sentence.</p><p>The turtle mortality rate has come down over the past few years due to various conservation measures, the official said.</p><p>Swain said patrolling by nearly two hundred officials including coast guard, forest, marine police and fishery department has been intensified along the coast as also offshore.</p>

During that time she gave birth to a daughter, Aaradhya, and made a variety of public appearances for the corporate names she represents (including high profile appearances at Cannes for L'Oreal Paris and showroom openings throughout south India for Kalyan Jewelers).</p><p>Her comeback film "Jazbaa" will begin shooting in December and is set to either screen or be previewed at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Little is known about "Jazbaa" with the exception of the cast and the fact that the story is borrowed from a popular Korean film. Hopefully Aishwarya Rai herself will be open to sharing more details about the project during her appearance at the Mumbai Film Festival.</p><p>Apart from her upcoming film news about the star has been lacking. She looked radiant in family photos released on the occasion of Amitabh Bachchan's birthday and during Karva Chauth celebrations over the weekend, but those small glimpses are all fans have had of her in recent weeks. But he is proud that we are here for him. He has given this film his blessing."</p><p>"He has not seen the film yet, but I am very excited for him to see it," Ali’s 46-year-old daughter, Maryum, also said at the screening.</p><p>"He is going to love it. I know he is. He is going to cry, he is going to laugh. He will be very proud."<br /> The documentary focuses on the family life of Ali – the three-time world heavyweight champion famed for his quick wit and lightning speed in the ring.</p><p>Director Clare Lewins pieced the feature-length together using Ali’s own audio journals, as well as oral histories from rival boxers, like Mike Tyson and George Foreman.</p><p>Muhammad’s son, Ali Jnr, said in January he believed there was "no chance" his father would survive until the end of 2014.</p><p>"I just want, hope and pray to God that this awful disease takes my dad sooner rather than later," he said.</p>

'Bang Bang' review: The film isn't unwatchable but certainly tests your patience

<p><strong>Mumbai, Rajeev Masand:</strong> Bang Bang has two gorgeous leads, some eye-popping stunt scenes, a slew of beautiful locales, and pretty hummable music. It would take an especially awful script and a truly incompetent director to deliver an unwatchable film out of those ingredients.When Bollywood filmmakers remake a Hollywood film, I wish they would stick to the same duration too! Bang Bang is the Indian remake of Knight and Day, which as far as I remember, was about 110 minutes but the running time of Bang Bang is 156 minutes! If you've ever watched a James Bond film in your life, you'll know the place is swarming with Secret Service agents. Perhaps they were all out to lunch when this was happening.</p><p>Okay, so this film is going to require some suspension of disbelief. No problem. Then, we're introduced to Katrina Kaif's character. If you can buy the idea of Katrina as a boring bank receptionist in Shimla who must sign up on an Internet blind-dating site to get a little romance in her life, then boy, you probably believe Santa Claus is real too!</p><p>Bang Bang is an official remake of the mediocre Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz starrer Knight And Day, and it's fashioned as a fast-paced actioner, which basically means the plot is going to be threadbare. Hrithik Roshan is Rajveer, a mysterious thief who's stolen the Kohinoor diamond, no less. As he dodges both the cops and the henchmen of a criminal mastermind who wants the rock,<br /> Rajveer meets Harleen (Katrina), who gets sucked into this globetrotting adventure with him.</p><p>The premise itself isn't so much of a problem as is the fact that Hrithik and Katrina have virtually no chemistry. The pair sizzled in Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, but here they produce fewer sparks than a box of soaked matchsticks. Both actors look a million bucks, particularly Hrithik who is made to lose his shirt at every conceivable opportunity and show off those well-oiled abs. Katrina, sadly, is stuck playing a pathetic ditz; the kind of insufferable character you wouldn't want to be sitting next to on a long-haul flight.</p><p>Director Siddharth Anand, the man who gave us such excruciating films as Tara Rum Pum and Anjaana Anjaani, applies the same pedestrian sensibilities to what could've been a slick enjoyable romp.</p><p>The film is weighed down by a teary familial back-story, and a twist that anyone who's watched even three masala potboilers can predict from a mile away. The blatant product placements are embarrassing, the dialogues so clunky they make you cringe. And yet if there's one reason to watch the film, it's Hrithik. He's charming and charismatic, and he appears to be having a good time. Here's a movie star who actually looks like he could pull off those action scenes for real.</p><p>The film then isn't unwatchable, but at 2 hours and 35 minutes, it certainly tests your patience. How many times have you ordered a dish that looks terrific photographed in a menu, but disappoints when it shows up on the table? Bang Bang is that kind of meal. I'm going with two out of five.</p>

However, the most important thing is to shape your eyes well with kajal or eyeliner on the eyelids.The best way to make your eyes look bigger is by extending the tip while applying the eyeliner from the corner of your eye. This defines your eyes better and looks great for a traditional look. You cold use the classic red lipstick or try on a plum red.’</p><p>Hairdo</p><p>‘You should be particular about the way your hair looks for this festive occasion. To be hassle-free and simple, just pin your hair into a neat bun and wear a fresh gajra. You could choose to leave out a few strands of hair near your face and curl them. Or simply puff and back comb the front of your hair and pin it tightly,’ says Swati.<br /> If you want to try out something other than a basic hair bun, then opt for a messy bun that looks modern and will blend in well making a good combination with the rest of the ethnic look. Swati suggests, ‘Another style you can try out is with a bun behind but with a twist in the front section of the hair. You could braid your hair from one ear to another into a regular plate or a French braid. For this, begin with side parting your hair and braid the hair from either sides, and move to the other. Then take the rest of the hair and tie it into a neat bun. Secure the bun section with pins.’</p><p>Traditional attire</p><p>Your look is going to be a miss if you don’t pick a cotton, silk or the traditional tant saree. You could stick to the classic red and white colours but if you are in a mood to experiment then look for borders in bright colours like pink, yellow, green or orange.<br /> There is nothing like it if you can manage wearing the traditional red and white Bengali saree with puffed sleeves. Or traditional silk borders against basic or neutral colours would look elegant as well. Ensure your saree is well-ironed as a creased one will only look shabby and spoil the appearance of your attire. You could also wear a printed ethnic blouse or opt for bold dark colours in contrasting colour of your saree.</p><p>To keep the ethnic look in tact, don’t forget to wear a big bindi. A basic maroon or red one will do the trick. Wearing a bindi also helps draw attention to your eyes. He’d told me he wanted to make a creature film though he didn’t have a script, just a lingering idea. He asked me if I wanted to be part of it. I was thrilled. Who wouldn’t want to do films like Jurassic Park and Anaconda? I wanted to see myself in a film like that. It was fabulous working on the film. When we were shooting, we didn’t know what we were acting or reacting to since the creature was created later in a CGI studio. There was nothing on the sets, we only had to imagine where its eyes were or where it would attack. It was quite tough. Even in terms of special effects, we had to do every shot at least three times, for functioning and logistical purposes. It was a demanding film.</p><p>Have you found your niche in horror movies?<br /> If you see my career graph, I’ve done an equal number of films in every genre. Yes, in comparison to other actresses, I’ve done more supernatural thrillers. That’s the only difference. But if a particular genre provides good story telling, entertainment and a different role every time then I will surely do more of such films. As long as I can make an entertaining film where I can perform, why not? Be it Raaz, Aatma or Raaz 3, I had great characters.</p><p>Do you get scared when you return home after working on a horror film?<br /> Oh it is scary! I’ve always been easily scared and I haven’t changed a bit even today. I thought these films would help me get rid of my fear but unfortunately it hasn’t happened.</p><p>Coming to Humshakals, why did you boycott the promotions?<br /> Boycott is a strong word. If you’ve seen Humshakals you’d know I had only six minutes in the film. I don’t know what was there in it for me to promote. What would I tell my fans? I can’t lie to them. Even I didn’t know what I’d done in the film. Till the last day, I had no clue what the story was about. Why should I promote such a film? Why should I dishearten my fans when I’m not satisfied with what I’ve done in it?</p><p>There were rumours...<br /> See, there is no point discussing all this. The film has released and gone. I did not discuss the film then and I don’t want to discuss it now. All I can say is that it was a great experience working with Vashu Bhagnani and Fox Studios. But I did not feel good as an actress doing a film like Humshakals. And I made that clear. However I finished the shoot amicably without asking any questions and without throwing any tantrums. I never objected to anything during the making. I was professional and completed my work.</p><p>Have you spoken to Sajid Khan post the release of the film?<br /> I didn’t feel the need to do anything like that.</p><p>There were also rumour about a tiff between Bhushan Kumar and you? Apparently you asked for 1 lakh for hair and make-up for promotions?<br /> The people who look after stars are professionals too, they don’t come for free. They aren’t my relatives to work for free. It’s true for all the actors. The contract for a film is the same for a promotional activity. Be it Deepika, Priyanka, Katrina, Salman or Hrithik, all their staff works on money. Why am I the one who’s targetted? Promotional activities happen for a whole month. We work 18 hours a day. Then why would my staff work for free. I will have to pay them for their services. This is part of our contract.</p><p>You haven’t worked with any of the Khans in the industry. Is that a regret?<br /> Why should I? They are all my good friends. Shah Rukh, Salman and Saif, all are my friends. If we are offered a good film then we will do it otherwise it really doesn’t matter. At this point in my career, I’m happy. I am happy and proud being myself. I’d never piggy-back on anyone.</p><p>Your relationship with Harman Baweja is now public. What was it about him that attracted you?<br /> Companionship is something that you can’t plan. When you connect with the person you just connect. There is no thought process behind it. I’m not the kind of person who gets attracted by money or success. I can’t tell you one thing about Harman that attracted me to him. It is only about connection and the fact that he is also a friend who understands me.</p><p>Who proposed first?<br /> What proposal? I don’t remember. It has been a long time. And we are not kids. It all used to happen in school, will you be my boyfriend or girlfriend? No one talks like this now. It’s just the bond. When you become a couple you just know.</p><p>When are you planning to get married?<br /> I haven’t thought about it yet. Right now, I have to do a lot more films. When I do get married everyone will know...</p><p>Does a break up make you a better person?<br /> Not necessarily. Some completely break down after their break up. Some pick up their life and move on. If you are an intelligent person then you will move on. I don’t think a break up can make you a better or a bad person. It’s life, you have to go through it.</p><p>So love can happen more than once?<br /> Love has various forms. It is different at every stage. As a child it’s puppy love. Then as youngster you fall crazily in love. Then there is a point in life when your love has a feeling of permanence. As you grow older, you understand love better. But I always say love yourself. The day you start loving yourself, you will get a stable and secure love life. The meaning of love changes with time.</p><p>Is sex important in love?<br /> Absolutely. It is the most important thing especially in maintaining fidelity. Your relationship will fall apart the day it’s not there. For me, if there is no love there is no point in having sex.</p><p>What’s the secret to a good relationship?<br /> Friendship, mutual respect and equality. Relationships break when there’s no mutual respect. It’s important to have a balance in any relationship. I should get the respect that I give to my partner. Space is important too. I don’t think you should be into each other 24x7.</p><p>What has been the most difficult phase of your life?<br /> The time when I got out of my long-standing relationship (with John Abraham) and had kind of stepped away from my career too. It was difficult to get my life on track. But thankfully I’m an intelligent girl. I realised the value of my life. And once I did that, it was fine. I got a grip on myself.</p><p>Who helped you sail through these difficult times?<br /> Family and friends always help you. This is the time when your work is most important. It is true when they say that and empty mind is a devil’s workshop. It’s important that every individual is self driven and passionate. What would you advise girls to do in such a situation.<br /> Always make yourself a priority. Only then can you love yourself and the other person equally. If you let the other person take precedence over you then you won’t ever be happy in your own life. Often girls make this mistake and that’s a big problem. Secondly, you should be confident. That’s why I say always love yourself.</p><p>You are an outspoken person. Has it ever posed a problem for you?<br /> Always. When someone questions me I always reply frankly. Whatever comes to my mind comes to my lips. At times I fail to put across my point in a pleasing manner. A lot of times people take it the wrong way.</p><p>So you’re easily misunderstood?<br /> I’m a friendly girl. People can read me wrong. I’m diffrent from my image. I have grown up physically but still feel like a child. We are three sisters and when we go out together, my younger sister protects me like she’s older. I don’t want the child in me to die. I like myself like that.</p><p>Any awkward rumours you’ve heard about yourself?<br /> When you’re in the business you are signing yourself to a contract where you will get equal amount of love and hate. So get ready for it and enjoy the ride. You have to know when to disconnect. I know out of 100 people, 50 will like me and 50 won’t. I’m concerned with only those 50 who love me.</p><p>What has life taught you?<br /> I feel I have a lot to learn from life. But let me tell you I don’t make too many mistakes. If you leave aside the little glitches, I’m a cautious person. I think a lot before taking any decision. I always protect myself. I don’t let people affect me because I know that people who don’t know me have no right to judge me. Only those who are close to me have the power to make me emotional. I concentrate only on my life. <p>Over the past few days, there's been a flood of tweets and stories in other media in support of Deepika Padukone's response to a video and tweet posted in the online entertainment section of TOI.</p><h2>Dear Deepika, our point of view, says Times of India</h2><p><img alt="Deepika Controversy" src="http://i.ndtvimg.com/i/2014-09/deepika-padukone_625x300_51410938370.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>As one of the largest media houses in the world with interests in print, TV, radio and online, we approach each medium differently, as do our audiences. There isn't a one-fits-all formula for either distributing or consuming content across various media.</p><p>On Friday, Deepika wrote on FB: "A character may demand that I be clothed from head to toe or be completely naked, and it will be my choice as an actor whether or not I take either. Understand that this is a ROLE and not REAL, and it is my job to portray whatever character I choose to play convincingly.''</p><p>Deepika, we accept your reel vs real argument, but what about all the times, and there have been many, when you have flaunted your body off screen — while dancing on stage, posing for magazine covers, or doing photo ops at movie promotional functions? What 'role' do you play there? So why the hypocrisy? What's equally hypocritical is that several media outlets have freely displayed Deepika's cleavage even as they sounded all outraged on her behalf. Surely they could have reported the story without those pictures?</p><p>Yes, the headline could have been better. But the world of online is very different from that of newspapers. It is chaotic and cluttered — and sensational headlines are far from uncommon.</p><p>We have always campaigned against the moral police. We believe there's no shame in Deepika showing off her body, but does she now want us to first check with her as to which pictures of her — taken at public events — we can or cannot publish? Are we going to have a parallel censor board for pictures of film stars taken off screen but in plain sight of the world, as Deepika's was? It's not as if the pictures were shot with hidden cameras, or that someone sneaked into her home, invaded her privacy, and took those pictures without her knowledge/permission.</p><p>Deepika, who began her career as a 'calendar girl' for a liquor brand, has written, ''Yes we marvel, envy and drool over a male actors 8pack abs in a film, but do we zoom in on the mans 'crotch' when he makes a public appearance and make that 'cheap headlines'??!!'' Deepika, just for the record, we do not zoom into a woman's vagina or show her nipples. As a newspaper, we take every care to ensure that we pixelate them if they show up in a picture, but your cleavage is as sexy as Shah Rukh Khan's '8-pack' abs. Given the nature of the online media worldwide, there could well have been a story headlined, "OMG...Shah Rukh's 8-pack sexy abs!!!" You've also written, ''Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I have little interest to take this further as it might get more attention than it deserves and might be further misconstrued and twisted to sell more undeserved headlines.'' Despite having made your point on Twitter, you have chosen to re-tweet every message and given as many interviews as you could. This has obviously been great publicity for you, timed perfectly with the release of your new film. Although the film borrows the title and characters from Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Khoobsurat, Ghosh's film is not a remake and if any film casts a shadow on it, it's The Sound of Music.</p><p>Milli whirlwinds into the baroque Rathore palace and transforms their lives a bit like Maria did with the von Trapps. The real story, half-baked as it may be, is between Milli and Rathore Senior (Aamir Raza Husain), who apparently cannot walk and for some reason has chosen to sit in a vintage, turn-of-the-century, unmechanised wheelchair.</p><p>However, Milli and her physiotherapy skills are not what make Khoobsurat engaging. If anything, Milli's blindly bright wardrobe and inane attempts at being chirpy and quirky are almost a turn-off. But just when you're cursing yourself for having paid the price of a ticket, in struts Fawad Khan, in a Raghuvendra Rathore ensemble, as Vikram Singh Rathore.</p><p>Much like traditional Bollywood heroines, Khan is outfitted in beautiful and impractical costumes. Vikram (and stylist Raghuvendra Rathore's) notion of casual is a tie with its knot loosened. He is almost always in bandhgalas and three-piece suits that do for him what corsets do for women: it makes him look elegant and rather dashing.</p><p>Every now and then, he wafts in for no reason, gives the camera a charmingly-raised eyebrow or two, and then wafts right out. Just as the stereotypical heroine who would nominally be attending college or holding down a job without doing any real work, Vikram supposedly runs a family business involving hotels. Apparently, running a hotel involves driving fancy cars, doodling on paper and organising meetings in picturesque locations.<br /> Vikram's real job in Khoobsurat is to be an Indian Mr. Darcy and Khan excels at that. He's got the stiff upper lip, cool tones and that well-trimmed beard is a definite plus. Thanks to Khan, Ghosh achieves the impossible in Khoobsurat: post-interval, the film improves instead of sinking into any abyss of mediocrity. The camera and story focus on the Rathores in general and Vikram in particular, and the audience is happier for it. It's no coincidence that this is also when Kapoor's Milli retreats from the action.</p><p>In addition to being handsome and blessed with a lovely voice, Khan can also emote and is able to make a faked kiss look convincing enough to give the girls in the audience tingles. Unlike Parineeti Chopra and Aditya Roy Kapur in this week's other release Daawat-e-Ishq, Khan and Kapoor have chemistry in Khoobsurat. The credit for this goes to Khan who could teach a course in how to ogle classily.<br /> While Daawat-e-Ishq is a failed rom-com, Khoobsurat is a charming, old-fashioned romance that delights in silliness and has fun while making use of all the predictable tropes.</p><p>There's a long tradition of women being reduced to sex objects in Bollywood films. They show up in scenes only to dazzle us with their beauty and play pretty much no part in the actual film, and end up with the hero at the end so that there is a happily-ever-after for audiences to take home.<br /> For the second time in months, Bollywood has turned the tables to great effect by making a hero play the part that was traditionally reserved for women. We heartily approve. As heroines have argued over the years, it isn't demeaning to be an important and beautiful prop when the character is written and performed well. With actors like Khan in the mix, there may yet be hope for the Indian romantic comedy.</p>

Bollywood Actress Sonam Kapoor doesn't like repeating roles

I like to play a different character each time.</p><p>Talking further about it, she said: I've never played someone like Mili (character in 'Khoobsurat') before, and I don't know if I'll play someone like her again. Just like Zoya, my character in 'Raanjhanaa'. She was someone I had never played before. I don't think I'll play her again.</p><p>Her future projects will also see her in roles different from her past portrayals on screen.</p><p>The characters I play in Dolly Ki Doli and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo are completely removed from what I've done so far. I don't like repetition. I'm making a conscious effort to play characters who are different from one another, said the actress, who will next be seen in Sooraj Barjatya's Ram Ratan Dhan Payo with Salman Khan.</p><p>She admits working with the hit duo has been an amazing experience.</p><p>There is so much positivity during the shooting. I can't describe how peaceful I feel when I am on the sets of 'Prem Ratan...', she said.</p><p>How different is Sooraj Barjatya from Sanjay Leela Bhansali, with whom she made her film debut in Saawariya in 2007?</p><p>You know I am so blessed. In just seven years I've worked with the best directors from Sanjay Bhansali to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra to Aanand L. Rai to Sooraj Barjatya. And Shashanka Ghosh (of 'Khoobsurat') is also an amazing director.</p><p>That such a varied spectrum of terrific directors have so much faith in me is very reassuring feeling for me. Their approval is a great validation for me. I may come across as a very confident person, but when it comes to my performances I am extremely self-critical and unsure. I feel I have a long way to go, said the 29-year-old daughter of veteran actor Anil Kapoor.</p><p>She believes each director she has worked with so far has helped her in her journey.</p><p>Sanjay and I haven't worked together after 'Saawariya', but we are connected constantly. Every time he sees something of mine on television, he messages me. Rakeysh Mehra is there for everything I do. Shashanka is so protective of me. If anyone says anything about me, he messages me. I am quite blessed with my directors and my co-stars.</p><p>Sonam also feels that from Saawariya to Khubsoorat, she has got better with every film.</p><p>If I started at 1.2, I've now gone to 1.7, she said while rating her growth, and added: I'm more excited by the journey than the destination. That's the way I am. I am always looking forward to seeing what the future holds for me.</p>

Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor raises fund for J&K flood victims
