<p><strong>Mumbai(PTI):</strong> Reliance Industries' Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani kept his annual salary capped at Rs 15 crore for the seventh year in a row even as the remuneration of most directors declined marginally.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/05/20/338217-mukesh-ambani.jpg" width="600" /><br /> Ambani, the richest Indian, has kept salary, perquisites and allowances and commission at Rs 15 crore since 2008-09, foregoing almost Rs 24 crore per annum.</p><p>"The Chairman and Managing Director's compensation has been set at Rs 15 crore as against Rs 38.86 crore as approved, reflecting his desire to continue to set a personal example for moderation in managerial compensation levels," RIL said in its annual report for the financial year ended March 31, 2015. His remuneration for 2013-14 included Rs 4.16 crore as salary, perquisites and allowances of Rs 60 lakh, retirement benefits of Rs 83 lakh and Rs 9.41 crore as commission on profit.</p><p>In the previous year, while his salary and perquisites and allowances were the same, he got commission of Rs 9.42 crore and Rs 82 lakh in retirement benefits. Ambani voluntarily capped his compensation at Rs 15 crore in October 2009 amid a debate over right-sizing of CEO salaries. Also, his key executives, including Executive Director P M S Prasad saw his remuneration remain unchanged at Rs 6.03 crore.<br /> Refinery chief Pawan Kumar Kapil saw his compensation dip marginally to Rs 2.41 crore in 2014-15 as compared to Rs 2.49 crore previously.</p><p>Ambani's cousins Nikhil R Meswani and Hital R Meswani saw their compensation dip marginally to Rs 12.03 crore from Rs 12.12 crore a year ago. RIL's non-executive directors also got up to Rs 1 crore each as commission, besides sitting fees ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 36 lakh.</p><p>Ambani's wife Nita Ambani, who is a non-executive director on the company's board, earned Rs 5 lakh sitting fee and a commission of Rs 78.64 lakh, according to the annual report. The criteria and the entitlement for performance-linked incentives for the two executives are determined by the Human Resources, Nomination and Remuneration Committee, RIL said.</p><p>Apart from Ambani, the RIL board has Meswani brothers, his wife Nita Ambani, Prasad, Kapil and company founder Dhirubhai Ambani's brother Ramniklal H Ambani. Its independent directors include Dharam Vir Kapur, Dipak C Jain, Mansingh L Bhakta, Yogendra P Trivedi, Mahesh P Modi, Ashok Misra, Raghunath A Mashelkar and Adil Zainulbhai.</p>

Black money: India to hold direct talks with tax havens to "deepen" cooperation

<p>New Delhi(PTI): Indian tax authorities and investigators probing black money cases have decided to hold one-to-one meetings with their overseas counterparts based in tax haven nations and other countries to "deepen" cooperation in the fight against illicit funds stashed abroad.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/05/20/338099-black-money.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>As part of the measures to combat the menace, investigators have also received a new dossier on tax-related business information on about a dozen entities whose names were reported by an international group of investigative journalists sometime back.</p><p>The Union Finance Ministry, after due consultations with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on black money and various financial probe agencies, has decided that a team of senior officials will be tasked to hold bilateral meetings with foreign jurisdictions either in India or at the location of the respective counterparts, to thrash out issues quickly.</p><p>"The step is aimed to cut down on the time taken in paper-based documentation and communication in cases of illegal funds stashed abroad. A team of senior officials drawn from the Ministry and its various field formations will hold meetings and put across requests related to probe in these cases right on the discussion table. The required sanctions in this regard have been obtained from the government," a senior Finance Ministry official said.</p><p>An official communication prepared in this regard by the Central Board of Direct Taxes and reviewed by the SIT underlines the need for having the new mechanism.</p><p>"Bilateral discussions, including through conference calls and face-to-face meetings with the competent authorities of our treaty partners which now include well known tax havens and offshore financial centres such as British Virgin Islands, Jersey, UAE and Singapore are being planned and the cooperation in this regard will be deepened in future.</p><p>"These bilateral meetings will help India in making targeted and specific requests for information and to understand the problems, if any, which prevent them in providing the information, and to examine how the same can be addressed," the note, accessed by PTI, said.</p><p>While about three such meetings have already taken place, the official said, about half-a-dozen are already lined up to be held this year including one with the European Union.</p><p>The note also mentions that "certificates of incorporation" of eleven entities listed in the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) report which were received from two foreign Financial Intelligence Units have been shared with CBDT for further action.</p><p>The ICIJ brought out these names early last year while some additional details were published by the global group this year on suspected world entities holding assets and shares in overseas business structures, including those with Indian connections.</p><p>The SIT on black money has early this month submitted its latest report to the Supreme Court to inform it about the development in various probes related to black money which included the development that the I-T department has launched 121 prosecution cases against those whose names had figured in the much talked about HSBC list.</p><p>The note added that the probe in cases of about 600 suspect names and addresses which were obtained by the Central Economic Intelligence Bureau (CEIB) last year through its exclusive channels is "in progress."</p><p>The official communication also reported the enhancement in cooperation between India and Switzerland on these issues, a fact mentioned by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley quite a number of times in the past.</p><p>"Switzerland has indicated willingness to provide information in respect of cases where investigations have been carried out by the I-T department independently from what Swiss government considers as stolen data. This development is very significant because there are a number of cases of account holders included in the HSBC list which were investigated by I-T department independent of the HSBC list obtained from the French government.</p><p>"Earlier, the Swiss government had not agreed to provide any information on names which were included in the HSBC list on the ground that these were stolen data and have been obtained in breach of Swiss law," it said.</p><p>Post the visit of a high-level officers delegation to the alpine nation in October last year, the note said, the "Swiss Federal Tax Administration has agreed that their competent authority would assist India in obtaining confirmation of genuineness of bank documents on requests by the Indian side and also swiftly provide information on requests relating to non-banking information. This willingness on the part of the Swiss authorities would help in our tax investigations."</p><p>"The Swiss authorities have also agreed to provide the requested information in a time-bound manner or else indicate the reasons why the cases cannot be answered within the agreed timeline.</p><p>"Switzerland has also assured that they would commence talks with India for concluding an Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) Agreement between India and Switzerland at the earliest, after completion of their domestic procedures. This is the first time that Switzerland has agreed to commence discussions on a bilateral agreement on AEOI," it said.</p>

<p>Mumbai(PTI): Seeking to mobilise gold held by households and institutions, government today came out with a draft scheme under which a person or entity can earn interest by depositing the metal with banks.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/05/19/337777-akshay-tritiya-pti-gold-edited.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>As per the draft guidelines, minimum gold deposit is proposed at 30 gms and the interest earned on it would be exempt from income tax as well as capital gains tax.</p><p>A person or institution holding surplus gold can get it valued from BIS-approved hallmarking centres, open a Gold Savings Account in banks for a minimum period of one year and earn interest in either cash or gold units, the draft said.</p><p>The Finance Ministry has sought comments from stakeholders on the draft gold monetisation scheme by June 2.</p><p>The gold monetisation scheme, which is proposed to be initially introduced only in selected cities, was announced in the Budget this year by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.</p><p>"The new scheme will allow the depositors of gold to earn interest in their metal accounts and the jewellers to obtain loans in their metal account. Banks/other dealers would also be able to monetise this gold," Jaitley had said.</p><p>India is one of the largest consumers of gold in the world and imports as much as 800-1,000 tonnes of the metal each year.</p><p>The stock of gold in India that is neither traded nor monetised is estimated to be over 20,000 tonnes.</p><p>The scheme is aimed at mobilising idle gold held by households and institutions, provide a fillip to the gems and jewellery sector and reduce reliance on import of gold over time to meet the domestic demand.</p><p>Under the proposed scheme, the bank interest to the customers will be payable after 30/60 days of opening of the Gold Savings Account.</p><p>"The amount of interest rate to be given is proposed to be left to the banks to decide. Both principal and interest to be paid to the depositors of gold, will be 'valued' in gold," the draft norms said.</p><p>It added, as example, that if a customer deposits 100 gms of gold and gets 1 per cent interest, then, on maturity he has a credit of 101 gms.</p><p>With regard to redemption, the guidelines said that customers will have the option of getting it back either in cash or in gold, which will have to be exercised in the beginning itself that is, at the time of making the deposit.</p><p>The tenure of the scheme has been proposed at a minimum 1 year and with a roll out option in multiples of one year, it said, adding that it would be like a fixed deposit, breaking of lock-in period will be allowed.</p><p>"To incentivise banks, it is proposed that they may be permitted to deposit the mobilised gold as part of their CRR/SLR requirements with RBI. This aspect is still under examination," it said.</p><p>Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) and Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) are mandatory requirement which banks have to follow as per RBI directive.</p><p>Elaborating other benefits of the scheme, the guidelines said, banks may sell the gold to generate foreign currency. The foreign currency thus generated can then be used for onward lending to exporters or importers.</p><p>Bank may convert mobilised gold into coins for onward sale to their customers and can be used for lending to jewellers, it said.</p><p>The government is also planning to commence work on developing an Indian Gold Coin, which will carry the Ashok Chakra on its face.</p><p>Such a coin is expected to help reduce the demand for coins minted outside India and help recycle the gold available within the country.</p><p>As far as lending to jewellers is concerned, a Gold Loan Account has to be opened on the basis of the terms and conditions of the banks.</p><p>"When a gold loan is sanctioned, the jewellers will receive physical delivery of gold from the refiners. The banks will in turn make the requisite entry in the jewellers? Gold Loan Account," the draft guidelines said.</p><p>They also said that banks will enter into a tripartite MoU with refiners and purity testing centres, that are selected by them to be their partners in the scheme.</p><p>The MoU will be required to clearly lay down the details regarding payment of fee, services to be provided, standards of service and the details of the arrangements between the banks, refiners and purity testing centres, it said.</p>

<p>New Delhi(PTI): Questioning RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan's monetary policy strategy, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha today pitched for 150 bps rate cut to wriggle out of the present growth sluggishness.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/05/14/336138-raghuram-rajan-manit.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>"Food inflation is down to under 5 per cent, Wholesale Price Index (WPI) is in the negative zone and the factory production numbers are also down. This is a classic case where a significant reduction in the policy rates should take place," Sinha said here late this evening addressing a function by consultancy Dun & Bradsheet.</p><p>Former Finance Minister Sinha said the RBI should go in for 150 basis points cut in the repo rate to 6% rather than tiny two 0.25% each cuts that Rajan effected earlier this year.</p><p>Saying he respects professionalism, Sinha added that "professionals aren't the preserve of the RBI alone" and competent officials in the Finance Ministry and the newly-created national planning body NITI Aayog should listen to their convictions and persuade the Governor to shift to being accommodative.</p><p>Sinha was apparently referring to Rajan keeping the policy rate unchanged earlier in April, despite a majority of seven external advisors to the RBI board favouring a cut of up to 0.5%.</p><p>"When four people say let's cut the rates, why does one person say that I am on top of all and goes for a status quo? Is this professionalism?," Sinha quipped in remarks which come days after release of the minutes of a consultancy committee on monetary policy which said Rajan had overruled the majority opinion and held the rates steady at the April 2 policy announcement.</p><p>Without naming the Governor or the RBI, he also criticised ending of the loan recast process. Defending the loan restructuring process, which Sinha started as the finance minister, he said this process is needed as there are many cases where the viability of a borrower has turned around after getting a breathing space to service the loan.</p><p>Stating that interest rate cuts and loan recasts are necessary for improving the economic climate, Sinha said the government should act on both the fronts and people will not wait for "eternity" for a change in their outlook.</p><p>With some people questioning the efficacy of the government on the economic front, Sinha said people will definitely assess the changes on the ground on occasions like the first anniversary and a government in a democracy should respect the same.</p><p>"The government has to move and create investment demand by getting the interest rates reduced," he said.</p><p>The RBI is scheduled to announce the second bi-monthly monetary policy on June 2 amidst falling rates and inflation coupled with weakening equity markets.</p><p>Action on the infrastructure, housing and real estate sectors is necessary to create investment demand and when coupled with a rate cut, would act as an enabling factor for corporates to start the investment activity, he said.</p><p>He also alluded to his time in the finance ministry, where the economy was able to clip at over 8 per cent following interest rate cuts from 14 to 6.5% in spite of difficult factors like the Asian financial meltdown of 1997-99 and many terror attacks which led to a lot of volatilities.</p><p>The former minister also asked the economic policymakers to desist from making changes in the models of growth computation, saying they should "not play with the models as it creates lots of confusions".</p><p>He, however, did not elaborate on his concerns with regard to method of computing.</p><p>Against the repeated calls for "big-bang" reforms, Sinha made a case for reforms being continuous as the challenges are also so.</p><p>On Prime Minister Narendra Modi's China visit, he said we should not celebrate overtaking the Communist neighbour in growth rates, saying, "it will take long time for us to catch up with the Middle Kingdom even if we are growing faster."</p>

<p><strong>Mumbai(PTI):</strong> The experts said the trend of companies moving away from bond market has been triggered by rate cut by banks and the hardening of yields across the globe.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/05/11/335240-money1-cash-edited.jpg" width="600" /><br /> Representational image File Photo dna Research & Archives<br /> With bonds becoming expensive, companies are deferring their plans to raise funds from debt market and preferring to tap banks for funds where lending rates have started coming down.</p><p>"With banks cutting lending rate situation has reversed. Bonds yields are now headed towards 8 per cent making resource raising through bonds expensive. Therefore, companies are deferring plans," said Abhishek Upadhyay, Economist, Fixed income strategy at ICICI Securities Primary Dealership.</p><p>Companies are now looking up to banks for funding needs, he added.</p><p>In the last one month, bonds prices have started coming down while yields have gone up. Bond yields have moved up by up to 0.20% in the last one month.</p><p>The yield on a bond is inverse to its price and is generally the par value of a bond divided by the interest. At the time of purchase, yield on a bond is equal to the interest rate, but changes as per the movement of rates.</p><p>The experts said the trend of companies moving away from bond market has been triggered by rate cut by banks and the hardening of yields across the globe.</p><p>Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and GIC Housing Finance are among the companies that are said to have deferred their plan for raising funds through bonds.</p><p>Bonds rates are expected to firm up further in anticipation that the US Federal Reserve will raise rates. Therefore, rising yields is quite natural across all emerging nation including India, said Jagannadham Thunuguntla, Head of Fundamental Research Karvy Group.</p><p>On Fed rate, Upadhyay said, "Bond market has already factored in the rate hike in September or a little later. However, the pace at which rate hike will come is uncertain."</p><p>So bond market activity is expected to be muted in the next few months, he added.</p><p>Bond yield crossed 8 per cent mark on Friday, he said adding that a clear direction would be known after RBI's next monetary policy review, scheduled for June 2.</p><p>The RBI in its last review, announced on April 7, kept policy rate unchanged awaiting clarity on impact of unseasonal rains on food inflation.</p><p>The repo rate, at which RBI lends to the banking system, left unchanged at 7.5% and the cash reserve ratio, which is the amount of deposits parked with the central bank, will remain at 4%.</p>

63 thermal power projects running behind schedule across India; delays to hit 'Make in India' plans

<p>New Delhi,Iftikhar Gilani(dna): As many as 63 thermal power projects, worth 57,121 mega watts (MWs), are running behind schedule across the country, including six from Maharashtra. Critical to the infrastructure, these overruns – at a time when the country is facing a power shortage of 30,000 MW – could halt industrial health of the country and more so affect the foreign direct investment (FDI) and even the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' plans.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/05/02/332791-power4.jpg" /></p><p>According to official sources, issues like land acquisition, frequent hartals, contractual disputes, tiff with villagers and slow civil works are to be blamed for delay in commissioning of these projects. A whopping Rs 3.53 lakh crore, the original cost of the projects, has been invested in these projects and the time overrun could well result in cost overruns too, they fear.</p><p>The Bongaigaon thermal power plant in lower Assam is running 66 months behind schedule, so is Bokaro in Jharkhand, 51 months. Two of the projects – in Nasik and Parli – in Maharashtra are running 65 and 48 months respectively behind schedule. These projects were supposed to replace 68 thermal power projects, declared retired since 2003.</p><p>It becomes more worrisome as in cumulative terms, core infrastructure industries have declined from 4.2 percent during April-March 2013-14 to 3.5 percent during April-March 2014-15. Alok B Shriram, president of PHD Chamber of Commerce, maintains that the time demands a strong push and dynamic policy regime at the ground level to refuel demand, especially the rural demand. But for long-term industrial outputs, credible supply of power was a basic requirement.</p><p>Four units of Nabi Nagar plants in Bihar, worth Rs 4,520 crore, are stalled due to delay in land acquisition and slow progress of civil works undertaken by M/S ERA, and supply of equipment by BHEL. The adjoining three units of new Nabi Nagar are also awaiting acquisition of balance land. Even for the land which has been acquired, the owners are still to be relocated and they are pitched inside the project area.</p><p>The works on Kudgai plant in Karnataka stands stopped on account of unrest and agitation, resulting in exodus of manpower. Its first unit was scheduled to be commissioned in December 2015. Two plants in Maharashtra, Mouda and Solapur are have a time overrun of 7-12 months due to delay in supply by contractors. Two units of Gadarwara projects in Madhya Pradesh are also facing issues related to land acquisition. The same is the case for phase one of Raghunathpur in West Bengal. There is delay in land acquisition for water and rail corridor, which has also led to law and order problems.</p><p>India's per capita power sector consumption stands around at just 940 kilo watt-hour (kWh), much lower than that of China's, which stands at 4,000 kWh. The Western nations have an average per capital consumption at 15,000 kWh. India has installed power generation capacity of 2,49,488 MW. But the daily generation is only to the tune of 1,35,000 MW, much lower than what is desired to develop the country into an industrial hub. To add to woes, transmission and commercial (AT&C) losses are to the tune of 26 percent of generation. Further, in rural areas, access to power is still a mere 52.5 percent, while in cities it is 93.1 percent.</p>

Ratan Tata becomes first Indian to invest in 'Apple of China' Xiaomi

<p>Mumbai(PTI): Iconic business leader Ratan Tata has acquired a stake in Chinese handset maker Xiaomi, the first investment by any Indian in the smartphone maker.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/04/27/331136-ratan-tata-pti-edited.jpg" /></p><p>The company declined to disclose the quantum and value of the stake, which Tata Group's former chief has picked in his personal capacity.</p><p>"We are truly excited to have Mr Tata on board. We will seek his advice in our journey to becoming an Indian company," Xiaomi India Head Manu Jain told PTI.</p><p>Tata, who retired as head of over $100-billion conglomerate in December 2012 and currently serves as chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, has emerged as a major venture capital investor since his retirement.</p><p>He has already made personal investments in homegrown e-commerce players like Snapdeal, Urban Ladder, Bluestone and Cardekho.Com. In March this year, he also invested in mobile commerce firm Paytm.</p><p>"India is our biggest market outside of mainland China and also an extremely important one. Our goal is to become number one in the next 3-5 years and we are keen on partnerships here," Xiaomi co-founder and President Bin Lin said.</p><p>Last week, Xiaomi announced its first 'made for India' handset Mi 4i, priced at Rs 12,999.</p><p>"Mr Tata is one of the most well-respected business leaders in the world. An investment by him is an affirmation of the strategy we have undertaken in India so far. This is just the start of an exciting journey, and we are looking forward to bringing more products into India," Xiaomi CEO Jun said.</p><p>"We want to become an Indian company. That is why we are building an R&D team here and setting up data centre. We want to manufacture and also invest in start ups in India," Lin said.</p><p>Indian corporate honchos have been aggressively investing in the burgeoning online retail sector.</p><p>Wipro Chairman Azim Premji has investments in Myntra and Snapdeal, while his rival and Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy (through Catamaran Ventures) started a joint venture with Amazon to help small and medium businesses come online.</p><p>In December last year, Xiaomi raised $1.1 billion, valuing the firm at $45 billion. <p>New Delhi(PTI): Heeding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call, industrialist Anil Ambani has given up cooking gas subsidies and has urged his group's about one lakh employees to follow suit.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/04/22/329705-anil-ambani.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>Ambani joins a host of industry leaders, including Mukesh Ambani, Anand Mahindra, Anil Agarwal, Gautam Adani, Uday Kotak and Kishore Biyani, who have rallied behind Modi's call to well-to-do people to give up buying LPG at below market price so as to help cut subsidy bill.</p><p>"As a mark of solidarity to this noble initiative, the leadership team of Reliance Group has already opted out of LPG subsidy," Ambani's Reliance Group wrote to its employees yesterday evening.</p><p>It appealed to employees, who can afford to buy LPG at market price, to "voluntarily join this moment and contribute to the cause of nation building."</p><p>"We strongly believe that this is a great opportunity for all of us to make a humble contribution towards energy conservation, social equitability and improved utilisation of scarce natural resources," it wrote.</p><p>Modi had last month launched the 'Give-it-Up' campaign, nudging the well-to-do to give up LPG subsidies. Over three lakh people, including ministers, government and public sector officials and MPs have given up using subsidised LPG.</p><p>While a subsidised cooking gas (LPG) cylinder costs Rs 417 per 14.2-kg cylinder in Delhi, a marketed priced bottle of the same size comes for Rs 621. Consumes are entitled to get 12 cylinders at the subdidised rate in a year.</p><p>In its letter to employees, the Group also detailed the procedure for giving up the use of subsidised LPG.</p><p>"Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has undertaken several impactful steps to promote a more inclusive and equitable quality of life for all sections of the society. One such initiative is 'Give it Up', through which government is urging the economically well to do sections of the society to voluntarily give up use of subsidised LPG and buy at market price," it added.</p>

<p>Bangaluru(PTI): Wipro chief T K Kurein said the appointment of promoter Azim Premji's eldest son Rishad to the company board "represents shareholder interest".</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/04/22/329661-wipro-kurein-reuters-edited.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>The Bangalore-based firm appointed Rishad to the Board as a wholetime Director, effective May 1.</p><p>Rishad for long has been talked about as the natural choice for taking over the company's operations and the move will bring him closer to the top spot at the country's third largest IT services firm.</p><p>"We have always said there is going to be shareholder interest being taken care of by getting somebody on the board and Rishad has really filled that role... He represents share holder interest, he is a valued member of the Wipro management team," Kurein told reporters here.</p><p>On Rishad's role, he said: "Nothing has changed and it continues the way it is. There is nothing much to be read into it, other than the fact that he is really in a way representing the shareholder interest."</p><p>Kurein said "Mr Premji (Azim) will remain as the Executive Chairman."</p><p>Rishad is already on the Board of Wipro Enterprises, the FMCG and infrastructure engineering arm, as well as Wipro-GE -- the joint venture between Wipro and General Electric in healthcare.</p><p>He is also on the Board of the Azim Premji Foundation.</p><p>While Azim Premji has always maintained that Rishad will not be appointed the chief executive, industry watchers have maintained that the son is being groomed to take on that role at a later stage.</p><p>Azim Premji directly owns 3.78 per cent in the company, while entities related to him own close to 70 per cent. Rishad had a direct ownership of 0.03 per cent shares in Wipro at the end of March 31, 2015.</p><p>Since joining the firm in 2007, Rishad has moved from heading Special Projects in the banking and financial services vertical to Chief Strategy Officer three years later.</p><p>He continues to run strategy and mergers and acquisitions in addition to his new responsibilities overseeing the Technology Office, Investor and Government Relations and Wipro Ventures.</p><p>Proxy advisory firm IiAS said the appointment of Rishad Premji to the board of Wipro has been done in a well thought out manner.</p><p>"The way the company (Wipro) has gone about it is sensible. It is a well thought out plan... He was groomed," IiAS Founder and Managing Director Amit Tandon said.</p>

She said that in the absence of the card, people were forced to buy jewellery in someone else's name.</p><p>However, the government is unlikely to change the rules as farmers are not barred from taking PAN cards, sources said. Holding camps like in the case of Jan Dhan Yojana, under which 150 million accounts were opened for the poor, would help people take PAN cards, they said.</p><p>The move was part of steps taken by government to curtail black money. The government is all set to take up the black money bill in Parliament. According to sources, several opposition MPs were in favour of referring the bill to a standing committee. India's trade gains could unravel as deficit widens

<p><strong>Mumbai,Manoj Kumar(dna):</strong> India's trade deficit in March was the highest in four months, at $11.79 billion, as exports continued to fall, underscoring risks for growth prospects. A plunge in global prices of crude oil, by nearly half since last June, has slashed the import bill, making for a less worrisome trade deficit, despite a drop in exports in recent months.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://www.moneycontrol.com/news_image_files/2013/i/India_TradeDeficit_Mecklai_180413.JPG" width="600" /></p><p>That could be about to change, with policymakers and businesses fretting that weak foreign demand could torpedo Prime Minister Narendra Modi's globe-trotting 'Make in India' campaign to boost export-oriented investment.<br /> Since winning power, Modi has visited major economies, including the United States, Japan, France, Germany and Canada, and set a goal of doubling exports to $900 billion over the next four years.</p><p>Annual figures for the last fiscal showed merchandise exports declined 1.2% to $310.5 billion, while imports were down 0.6%, at $447.6 billion. That widened the annual trade deficit to $137 billion in the last fiscal year from $135.8 billion in the preceding year, with the fall in net exports likely to hurt the gross domestic product.</p><p>STEEP SLIDE<br /> A closer look at the monthly figures shows a sharp slide in both imports and exports since September, however. Economists worry exports could remain sluggish if demand in major markets, such as Europe, slumps further and the rupee appreciates.</p><p>"Reforms that would significantly boost export prospects, such as loosening labour laws and easing land acquisition, have not been forthcoming. Unless this changes, exports look set to remain a weak spot," said Shilan Shah, India economist at Capital Economics in London. "Growth in exports is very important for India to meet its ambition of growing at double digits, but very little could be done in the short-term to push exports," he said.</p><p>The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cut interest rates twice this year, and is intervening in forex markets from time to time to curb the rupee - a relief for exporters hit by the euro's decline of a fifth against the rupee over the past year.</p><p>Europe's share in India's merchandise exports fell more than 2 percentage points to 18.1% in the 11 months to February, to stand at $51.6 billion, while other regions showed growth in sales, Commerce Ministry data showed.</p><p>"Our worry is that volatility in the currency markets could hurt exporters, but the RBI is addressing that through market interventions," one senior finance ministry said. Non-oil imports could pick up this year, due to recovery in the manufacturing sector, added the official.</p><p>But the trade deficit in financial year 2015/16 could still fall to $90 billion to $100 billion, on lower oil prices. Short-term trade dynamics are weak, however, amid a dearth of global demand. Goods exports fell in March for the fourth month running, to $24 billion, a drop of more than 17% from last September's peak. Imports slid over the same period to $35.7 billion.</p><p>"Most of our factories are working for eight hours against 24 hours earlier as orders from Europe have dried up," said S.C. Record refining margins help RIL post biggest profit in 7 years

<p><strong>Mumbai(dna):</strong> Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) on Friday posted its biggest quarterly profit in seven years with fourth quarter net income rising 10.8% to Rs 6,240 crore as earnings from refining crude increased.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/04/18/328398-mukesh.jpg" /></p><p>Net profit in Q4 jumped 10.8% to Rs 6,240 crore. This is the highest quarterly net profit for RIL since it clocked Rs 8,079 crore in profit in the third quarter of 2007-08.</p><p>The company earned $10.1 for every barrel of crude it turned into fuels during the quarter (call it gross refining margin or GRM), compared with $9.3 a year earlier and $7.3 in the three months ended December 31, 2014.<br /> Slump in crude prices and gas output hit the company as sales nosedived 41% to Rs 56,040 crore.</p><p>The quarterly earnings however beat the Rs 5,960-crore median of 16 analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. The company had reported net income of Rs 5,630 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago. Consolidated net profit in the January-March quarter at Rs 6,381 crore was 8.5% higher than Rs 5,881-crore profit a year ago.</p><p>On Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the stock fell 0.2% to Rs 926.85 on Friday. The earnings were announced after the market hours.</p><p>For 2014-15, RIL reported a 4.8% rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 23,566 crore even as turnover fell 13% to Rs 3,88,494 crore.</p><p>The refining segment of oil-to-telecom conglomerate recorded the highest ever quarterly pre-tax profit (EBIT) of Rs 4,902 crore, up 23.7% year-on-year. This helped offset a 6.8% decline in EBIT in petrochemical business to Rs 2,003 crore and a near 36% slump in the same from oil and gas business to Rs 489 crore.</p><p>Its US shale gas business also saw a 23.1% drop in EBIT to Rs 336 crore but the booming retail business saw per-tax profits jumping from Rs 24 crore in January-March 2014 to Rs 104 crore in the fourth quarter of 2014-15.</p><p>"The fiscal 2014-15 has been a very successful and an important year for Reliance. In a time when the collapse of crude oil prices unsettled the hydrocarbons markets, our refining business delivered record earnings," said RIL chairman and managing director Mukesh D Ambani, in a statement.</p><p>Debt rose to Rs 160,860 crore from Rs 150,007 crore as on December 31, 2014. Cash balance also moved up to Rs 84,472 crore as on March 31 as compared to Rs 78,691 crore as on December 31, 2014. Interest cost at Rs 677 crore in the fourth quarter was lower than Rs 978 crore in corresponding period of the previous year due to lower average exchange rate during the quarter.</p><p>Stock analysts believe that higher profits would reinforce RIL's plans to spend Rs 1.8 lakh crore to boost petrochemical-producing capacity, open retail stores and start phone services in the world's fastest growing market for smart phones. The company is banking on its refineries to increase profit and make up for lower natural gas output.</p><p>Profit from making diesel in Singapore, an Asian benchmark, averaged $15.52 a barrel in the quarter ended December 31, compared with $17.86 a year earlier and $15.57 a barrel in the preceding three months, according to data from PVM Oil Associates in London.</p><p>RIL operates two refineries with a combined capacity of 1.24 million barrels a day located next to each other at Jamnagar in Gujarat. The units have the ability to process cheaper, lower grades of crude into high-value products for use in Europe and the US.</p><p>The company produces natural gas from the KG-D6 block off India's east coast with partners BP Plc, Europe's second-biggest oil company, and Canada's Niko Resources Ltd. Output from the field has been falling since the middle of 2010. The gas output from KG-D6 fell 5% to 36.5 billion cubic feet in the quarter from the previous three months, Reliance said. Oil production from the block fell 3% to 500,000 barrels and condensate output decreased 0.4% to 100,000 barrels.</p><p>Reliance Jio, the telecom arm, is all set to start a $12 billion telecommunications network this year to meet the growing voice and data demand, while Reliance Retail, which operates a chain of retail stores, looks to expand its presence.</p>

<p>Mumbai(PTI): Cautioning the industry against getting “disillusioned so fast”, top business leader Ratan Tata today asked it to give ‘support and opportunity’ to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for delivering on his promises.</p><p><img alt="Don’t get disillusioned, support Modi: Ratan Tata to India Inc" src="http://images.indiatvnews.com/mainnational/IndiaTvbf9bc2_Ratan-Tata.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>Stating that the Modi government has not completed even one year in office, Tata said, “All of us should understand that it’s a new government, and we need not get disillusioned and dissatisfied with so fast.”</p><p>The comments come at a time when various business leaders including HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh, Marico Group’s Harsh Mariwala and the new CII President Sumit Mazumder have talked about a need for the new government’s reform measures to start reflecting on the ground.</p><p>“There’s a great deal of hope in the inspirational leadership of Modi. He is still in the early stages of defining what he hopes to deliver a new India. The implementation hasn’t really taken form this year. But we still have to give him the opportunity to implement what he has promised,” Tata said here.</p><p>He was replying to a query on his views about the economy under the new regime during the convocation of the ‘Mumbai International School of Business Bocconi’.</p><p>Expressing confidence that the Prime Minister will deliver on his promises, Tata said: “We’re all hopeful that the country will move forward in the manner that Modi predicted.</p><p>“We really need to support it if we need to have a new country and outlook both internationally as well as domestically.”</p><p>He added: “In short, we’re all hopeful that the country will move forward in the manner that Modi predicted.”</p><p>Mazumder said yesterday at a press conference in the national capital that the Modi government has taken forward reforms in various areas but issues like land acquisition were still coming across as key bottlenecks for implementation of large projects, while the industry has also been experiencing obstacles with regard to the Companies Act.</p><p>Mazumder also highlighted that although progress has been made in reforming labour laws, a lot needs to be done, while there are “still certain factors which need to be resolved in the ease of doing business”.</p><p>The Prime Minister, as also other top government leaders, have asserted that all efforts are being made to improve ease of doing business.</p>

They realise India is one of the countries that offers what they are looking for," India's High Commissioner in Canada,?Vishnu Prakash, had said yesterday.</p><p>Modi, who arrived in Canada yesterday on the last leg of his three-nation tour, has made a strong pitch for 'Make in India' initiative.</p><p>The bilateral trade increased to $5.18 billion in 2013-14 from $4.83 billion in previous year.</p><p>Modi yesterday said that environment is changing in India and highlighted that various international agencies including World Bank and IMF have said that India is the fastest growing economy.</p><p>India is focusing on the manufacturing sector and Canada has raw material, Modi had said</p>

Air Canada to begin direct flights to Delhi

<p>Canada(ANI): Air Canada has announced that it will begin direct flights from Toronto to New Delhi, the first non-stop flight travelling between the North American country and India, starting November.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/04/17/328173-air-canada.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>This information was given during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper, as well as the nation's corporate heads.</p><p>The Air Canada website confirmed the announcement.</p><p>"Introducing flights to Delhi aboard our 787 Dreamliner starting November 2015. With new flights from Toronto to Delhi we will be offering the only non-stop flight from Canada to India," a message on the website read.</p><p>Earlier, Canadian businessmen, who were looking forward to a CEO summit meet during Prime Minister Modi's visit, felt neglected and left out. The Canada-India Business Council and the Toronto Board of Trade had apparently been working to organise such an event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto on Thursday, where they wanted to host both Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Harper, somewhat similar to what was organised during the Paris and Germany legs of the Prime Minister's three-nation, nine-day-long overseas tour.</p><p>However, scheduling issues led to the event being scrapped.</p><p>Mr. Modi has been pitching for FDI for his pet project of 'Make in India' and attracting more investments from Canada is high on the agenda. Bilateral trade between India and Canada is merely US dollars 5.7 billion.</p><p>Canada and India currently share a rather meek business relationship. Not even one per cent of Canadian exports currently ship to India, with goods exports around 3.1 billion dollars in 2014 — less than one-sixth what Canada exports to China.</p><p>Canada's Global Markets Action Plan identified India as a priority market, with a burgeoning economy and roughly 11 million people under 30 entering the workforce each year, according to a report filed by the web site cbc.ca/news.</p><p>India has for years remained the largest market for Canada's pulses (grain legumes such as lentils and peas), and Canada also supplies lumber and potash.</p><p>India celebrated the year 2012 as year of India in Canada to promote business, cultural and political relations with India.</p>

India has potential to grow at 10%: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley

<p>NEW DELHI(PTI): India has the potential to make nine to 10 per cent growth rate "a new normal", Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said today while asserting that high growth was essential to meet the challenges posed by the country's burgeoning young population.</p><p><img alt="" src="http://static.dnaindia.com/sites/default/files/2015/04/16/327903-arun-jaitley-pti-edited.jpg" width="600" /></p><p>"India has the potential to make nine to ten per cent its new normal in the years to come," Jaitley said in his keynote address at the day-long conference 'Deepening the US-India Commercial Partnership: The First Year of the Modi Government'.</p><p>"India's own normal in terms of its growth rate has to target anything close to a double digit. India growing at five per cent, six per cent or even seven per cent is not an India that is going to face up this challenge (of large young population)," Jaitley said at the conference organised by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington-based top American think-tank.</p><p>Arun Jaitley Finance Minister of India<br /> By and large it is a welcome move in India. Everything has been opened up.</p><p>He made the remarks in his maiden public appearance hours after arriving here to attend the annual spring meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.</p><p>Listing out the steps being taken by the new Indian government like giving more financial powers to states, increased investment on infrastructure, emphasis on manufacturing, Jaitley said the roadmap laid out is to open the door for investment.</p><p>"By and large it is a welcome move in India. There are very few sectors now, almost insignificant, that remain closed. Everything has been opened up," he said citing insurance, defense, railways and real estate sectors in this regard.</p><p>When both domestic and international investors come in, the next step is to develop a system in which investing in India itself becomes attractive.</p><p>Jaitley acknowledged that land reforms bill remains a contentious issue in India today.</p><p>"I have no hesitation in saying that the land law if it remains in the present shape is a big hurdle to employment creation. One of the areas where we are trying to ease the (land) acquisition process is creation of industrial corridor. This is capable of providing employment to a vast number of people in rural areas," he said.</p><p>Jaitley said the government is trying to "narrow down" the period in opening up new projects.</p><p>"I have set up a new committee to look up into the whole mechanism of how, whole institution of prior permission can be replaced by regulatory mechanism where it is far easier to start your business just complying with the guidelines that have been stated in that area," Jaitley said.</p><p>As these efforts would start yielding results in the next few years, Jaitley exuded confidence that India would enter a phase of double digit growth from what he hoped a eight per cent growth this year.</p><p>Referring to the latest growth rate projection of 7.5 per cent this year, Jaitley in response to a question said the feeling in India is this "is not our" real potential.</p><p>When the net impact of all the latest reforms is realised, he said, it is capable of "taking us close to what we thought we can never reach and today there is a realisation that that is a realisable target."</p><p>Responding to another question, Jaitley said among various reforms labour laws will remain a challenge.</p>

India Consumer Insight Unveils Indians’ Instant Noodle Consumption Preferences

Besides, the consumption rate of packet noodles is 10% higher than that of cup noodles. Maggi is the most consumed and most flavoured brand of instant noodles, while Yippee is considered as its next nearest rival. “Taste”, “Flavour” and “Nutrition” are rated as the top most important factors in deciding what brand of instant noodles to purchase.</p><p>Although small retail shops near consumers’ houses are the most common place for them to purchase instant noodles, online purchases take up a non-negligible 13% share. Furthermore, 67% of the respondents take instant noodles once or more than once a week, among which 20% of them consume almost everyday.
