Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 7th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Summit, a flagship programme of Gujarat government, in Gandhinagar on Sunday.

This year's three-day event, which is being held amid tight security in the wake of Pakistan vessel incident in Arabian sea, is touted to be the biggest ever, with a host of high-profile business as well as political leaders attending it.

Apart from Ban Ki-Moon and John Kerry, several ministers from Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada and over 50 CEOs of top Indian as well as international companies will participate in the summit that will conclude on January 13. Eight countries, including the US, Canada and Japan have for the first time become partner nations for the summit.

The business event is expected to bring in record investments to Gujarat and the state government expects to sign over 20,000 Expression of Interest (EoI) or MoUs during the summit.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon arrives for Vibrant Gujarat Summit

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon today arrived at Ahmedabad city airport ahead of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit which kicks off tomorrow. Gujarat government spokesperson and the state minister Saurabh Patel said that Ban was also likely to visit Sabarmati Ashram of Mahatma Gandhi in Ahmedabad and few other places in the state.

Narendra Modi holds series of meetings with foreign dignitaries in Gandhinagar

Trade, economic ties and terror were the main issues discussed in the meetings Prime Minister Narendra Modi had with foreign dignitaries including Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay on the margins of the "Vibrant Gujarat" Summit.

Modi discussed a wide variety of issues with the leaders of various delegations from UK, Japan, Singapore among others who are here to participate in the Summit.

Modi and Tobgay discussed security cooperation including in recent times, following the events in Assam where Bodo militants carried out attacks on tribals and killed 70 people.

"They agreed that cooperation and coordinating efforts is the best way to proceed," an official source said.

The two leaders also reviewed the hydro power projects and other development partnerships.

UK's OPG Power Ventures to invest £1.5 billion in Gujarat

British energy giant OPG Power Ventures will further invest £1.5 billion in Gujarat, a visiting UK Minister said.

"UK's company OPG Power Ventures will increase their power production from 300 MW to 2,300 MW with a further investment of 1.5 billion pounds in Gujarat," British Minister of State for Trade and Investment Lord Livingston said.

The UK has invested $3.2 billion in India, more than any other G20 country and more than Japan and the US, added Livingston

The UK is the partner country for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit which would start tomorrow, and has sent a delegation representing 60 British companies, with 100 delegates.

Ban Ki-Moon will inaugurate Gujarat's first 10 MW solar power plant on Narmada river canal.

The summit will have various country-wise seminars for promotion of business ties with different nations, as well as sector-wise seminars. It will also facilitate business to business meetings.

The biennial event had been launched by Narendra Modi in 2003 during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, to attract investments into the state.
