NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday made a statement on Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti's abusive remark in Rajya Sabha and urged the Parliament to accept her apology.

"The minister has apologized, let the House function," PM Modi said in a bid to pacify the opposition which refused to relent over the issue.
"It is a lesson we should all speak carefully," the PM said, adding, "I had made my displeasure clear on the very day the abusive statement was reported in the media."
However, opposition members continued with their protests and insisted on sacking of the minister.
"PM Modi must sack the abusive minister," Congress leader Anand Sharma said.
He was supported by CPM's Sitaram Yechury who said the House will not function till the minister is sacked.
JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav said the statement made by the minister could not be settled with a mere apology.
Earlier, the stand-off between the government and the opposition over abusive remark of Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti continued for the third day on Thursday.
A united opposition demanded that the minister be sacked even as BJP ruled out her resignation over the issue.
Defending government's stand, Venkaiah Naidu said the minister has expressed regret, the government has made a statement and the matter should be closed.
