New Delhi: To restore the glory of the Ganga river, the Centre has presented a blueprint of short, medium and long term measures which is spread over 18 years and involves investment of thousands of crore.

Reports say that as a first target to achieve total sanitation including water waste treatment and solid waste management, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government submitted that it has identified around 118 towns situated on the bank of river Ganga.
"The submitted plan looks a comprehensive one. Going by this plan the river will not be cleaned in next 200 years. We want to know the stage-wise progress of the project," said the bench headed by Justice T S Thakur said. SC wants a supplementary affidavit within three weeks.
"When will Ganga flow with its pristine glory? We are not sure if our generation can see it. We would like at least our future generation to see the development," the bench also observed.
The court's remark came after Centre's counsel Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar told the bench the government is actively considering the appropriate modification and restructuring of National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) to make it more effective.
He also argued that the environment and water ministries are closely co-ordinating to arrive at 'suitable means for maintenance of ecological flow.'
The affidavit, filed in the Supreme Court, reportedly said that in order to ensure rejuvenation of the Ganga, the action plan envisages phase wise timeline in terms of short term- a period of three years, medium term - a period of next five years and long term- a period of next ten years and more.
