New Delhi, 27 August: The Delhi High Court has set aside all orders against Lalit Modi and has restored his passport, paving the way for the former Indian Premier League chairman to return to India.

RCA chief Lalit Modi will be back after Delhi HC restores passport

Modi was facing FEMA cases related to IPL and his presence was required before the Enforcement Directorate — but he refused to travel, instead choosing to stay in the United Kingdom. The government had then cancelled his passport.

The ED notice had said that Modi "has been allegedly involved in serious contraventions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act 1999, in connection with the IPL".

Despite being in the UK, Modi managed to win the Rajasthan Cricket Association elections — after which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the board and all its players.

After the recent IPL spot-fixing scandal, Modi has taken it upon himself to uncover the corruption in the BCCI — particularly targetting (currently suspended) BCCI chief N Srinivasan.

Modi has constantly spoken about his desire to return to India and while it is not clear whether he will, it will make things interesting as to how it will affect the RCA.
